Gran Turismo 7: pre-orders live, all editions detailed

It was already announced a few days back during Sony’s most recent PlayStation Showcase but now the countdown begins: Gran Turismo 7, the first one for the PlayStation5 and the first “numbered” member of the GT Series since 2013’s GT6, is out on March 4th and gamers can pre-order it today through traditional retailers’ e-shops or through the PlayStation Store. It’s true that Kazunori Yamauchi, creator of the series, has not always been the best at meeting deadlines but it seems that, this time around, most of the work was done “under the radar” right after the release of GT Sport and that there won’t be any unpleasant surprises leading up to the game’s release.

As is now pretty much a given, there are several different editions of GT7 available for pre-order… plus, since the title will be available for the PS4 as well as the PS5, some clarification regarding which edition gives access to which version(s) is needed. So: there’s the “vanilla” edition called simply “Launch Edition”, in separate versions for the PS5 and the PS4, costing $69.99 and $59.99 respectively. As Sony announced recently, PS4 owners can upgrade to the PS5 version of the game at a later date for $10.

A word of note: PS4 owners who get the disc version of the game will be required to insert that disc into the (obviously disc-based) PS5 every time they want to play. If those consumers wish to get the digital version of GT7 for the PS5, so as to not use the game disc, they will have to buy a new copy. PS5 owners, meanwhile, who get the “Launch Edition” of GT7 in digital form do get the PS4 version too.

It so happens that in 2022 the Gran Turismo series has its 25th anniversary, so available for pre-order is also a, yes, “25th Anniversary Edition”. This will come in a limited “steel book” disc-based version or a digital deluxe version, both costing $89.99. Both will offer the PS4 version as well as the PS5 one (there will not be a PS4-only “25th Anniversary Edition”) and the following extras besides the game itself: 1.500.000 in-game credits (1.000.000 for the steel book edition), the Toyota GR Yaris with country-specific livery, 30 PSN avatars and the “Music of Gran Turismo” official soundtrack.

All GT7 pre-orders — regardless of the edition picked — are getting 100.000 in-game credits and a 3-car pack consisting of the Toyota Supra GT500 ’97 (Castrol Tom’s), Porsche 917 Living Legend and the Mazda RX-Vision GT3 Concept Stealth Model. It’s highly likely that Sony will also be releasing a special version of the PlayStation5 in March to commemorate the release of GT7, which will probably look somewhat different and offer all the bonus content of the “25th Anniversary Edition”. By the look of things, then, if there’s a PS5 that will be even harder to find than the current one, it will be the PS5 GT7 Edition, no?
